This scene is a reference to how Joe Friday was an apartment dweller and a cute tip of the hat to Bugs Bunny, my major influence for Hopady and the character she plays in Rabnet, Jo Wednesday (who is basically Hopady in disguise). The thing about an apartment for rent is a riff on how apartments are always hawked for lease by their landlords, natch. -Rich
