Originally it was Tyrone whose branch would break, but Ed thought it would be funnier if Tommy’s did and it turned out to be a great idea. Also, Tyrone isn’t joking in the last panel, since he is so dense he assumed cats did always land on their feet until Tommy’s spill. Tommy’s landing is deliberately left unseen so readers can take what Tyrone has to say about it and let their imaginations run wild from there, like how Bill Watterston always left “The Noddle Incident” to the imagination of Calvin and Hobbes fans. You don’t always have to “Show, don’t tell.” when spinning a yarn. -Rich
